Timothy Noon appointed Musical Director of Plymouth Philharmonic Choir
Timothy Noon has been appointed the next Musical Director of Plymouth Philharmonic Choir.
He will take up the post at the end of 2026, succeeding interim Director, Dr Paul Foster, and Christopher Fletcher, who directed the choir for some 29 years before that. Timothy will combine the role with his continuing work as Director of Music at Exeter Cathedral and as President of the Cathedral Organists’ Association.
Widely respected as a conductor, organist and educator, Timothy Noon has held appointments at several major cathedrals in the United Kingdom and New Zealand, and has built a distinguished reputation for choral training, imaginative programming, and musical leadership. At Exeter Cathedral he directs the Cathedral Choir in a wide-ranging programme of worship, concerts, broadcasts and recordings.
Speaking about his appointment, Timothy Noon said:
“I am absolutely delighted to be joining Plymouth Philharmonic Choir as its next Musical Director. The choir has a proud history and a wonderful reputation for ambitious music-making, and I am greatly looking forward to working with its singers, audiences and supporters.
“Devon is fortunate to possess two great historic cities with rich musical traditions, and I am excited by the prospect of contributing to the cultural life of both Exeter and Plymouth in the years ahead. I hope we can build on the choir’s impressive achievements and continue to explore inspiring and rewarding repertoire together.”
Catherine Teague, Chair of Plymouth Philharmonic Choir, said:
“We are thrilled to welcome Timothy Noon as our new Musical Director. His experience, musicianship and vision make him an outstanding appointment for the choir, and we are enormously excited about the future under his leadership.”
Founded in 1970, Plymouth Philharmonic Choir is one of the region’s foremost choral ensembles, performing a broad repertoire ranging from major choral classics to contemporary works.
